Description

Description

Karlstad University, Sweden (KAU) has established a process to recruit excellent postdoctoral researchers under the Marie Skƚodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF) programme. With this call we are inviting expressions of interest from researchers within the field of Social Work/ Public Health. These expressions of interest will be assessed at KAU and one candidate will be selected to write a proposal for a 24-month MSCA-PF, to be hosted at KAU.

Successful candidates in this ‘expression of interest’ call will be invited to join an introductory Zoom session in June 2024. At this session, the candidates will receive information on the MSCA-PF application process and discuss project plans with their potential supervisor. The selected candidates will, in cooperation with their supervisor, write an application to be submitted in the 2024 MSCA-PF call (deadline 11 September 2024).

This MSCA-PF in Social Work/Public Health will be supervised by Professor Evelina Landstedt of KAU's Department of Social and Psychological Studies. Landstedt is professor of Social Work and associate professor of Public Health. She has worked at the University of Melbourne, Australia and at several universities in Sweden.

Professor Landstedt's research evolves around longitudinal understandings of risk and protective factors of child and youth mental health. Specific focus is placed on psychosocial aspects of schooling, interpersonal violence and school mental health promotion. Her multidisciplinary scholarly work includes both quantitative and qualitative research methods and draws on life-course and intersectional approaches. In her research, Landstedt applies and advocates collaborative participatory approaches and development of evidence-based interventions.

Professor Landstedt would welcome applications in the following areas:

  • Longitudinal analyses of mental health in children and youth
  • Social determinants of mental health in children and youth
  • Child and youth mental health promotion

Professor Landstedt is leading several research projects and is Deputy Director of KAU’s Centre for Research on the Mental Health and Life Circumstances of Children and Youth (CBU). She is actively involved in many academic as well as stakeholder networks that are closely connected to her research areas.  These networks would provide an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to expand their own network but also to engage in Nordic and international fieldwork and short-term placements.

Eligibility criteria

The applicant must have been defended their doctoral thesis and addressed any corrections required by their examiners before the MSCA-PF application deadline (11 September 2024). Furthermore, their doctoral degree must have been awarded no more than eight years before that deadline (years of experience outside research and documented career breaks will not count towards the eight-year maximum). The applicant can be of any nationality and must not have spent more than 12 months in Sweden in the three years immediately prior to 11 September 2024. If the applicant applied for an MSCA-PF in the 2023 competition and received a score of less than 70%, then they are not eligible to apply in the 2024 competition.

Process

Please send your CV (max. three pages), a covering letter explaining why you wish to apply for an MSCA-PF at KAU (one page) and an outline for a research project that would strengthen and complement the presented research profile (max. 1000 words) as attachments to GIO@kau.se by 17 May 2024. Selected candidates will be informed by 31 May. Please include "KAU MSCA 2024" in the subject line of your email.
