About
PhD fellowship “Characterization of gas and particulate air pollutants in indoor environments”
The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences, Foundation of Research and Technology - Hellas, (FORTH/ICE-HT) is seeking applicants for one PhD candidate position in the context of the research project «Disrupting Noxious Synergies of Indoor Air Pollutants and their Impact in Childhood Health and Wellbeing, using Advanced Intelligent Multisensing and Green Interventions (SynAir-G)», Project: 101057271 — SynAir-G — HORIZON-HLTH-2021-ENVHLTH-02 which is implemented under the HORIZON Research and Innovation Actions.
Job Description
To conduct research as a PhD candidate in the framework of the aforementioned project “SynAir-G”. SynAir-G aims to reveal and quantify synergistic interactions between different pollutants affecting health, from mechanisms to real-life, focusing on the school setting. The project will develop a comprehensive and responsive multipollutant monitoring system, advance environmentally friendly interventions, and disseminate the generated knowledge to relevant stakeholders in accessible and actionable formats. To achieve these objectives, SynAir-G will construct and deploy novel and improved sensors of chemical and biological (allergens, microbes) pollutants. These will be tested in a real-world setting, in participating schools of 5 countries around Europe and eventually combined into a multisensing platform. In the same setting, pollutants will be linked to their sources and eco-friendly air-purifying devices will be assessed. Health outcome data will be obtained from children using a gamified app and prospective monitoring, respecting privacy.
The objective of this job is to perform detailed measurements of the indoor chemical pollutants using both state-of-the-art instrumentation and low-cost sensors.
Location: FORTH/ICE-HT, Patras, Greece
Duration: up to 12 months, with the potential of renewal or extension according to the needs of the project
Fellowship: up to 850 € per month (graduate fellowship) depending on qualifications
Envisaged starting date: 1/11/2022
Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates are required to hold a Diploma in Chemical Engineering and should have been registered as a PhD Candidate in Chemical Engineering. Moreover, candidates must have experience in measurements of atmospheric pollutants using state-of-the-art instrumentation or low-cost sensors and good knowledge of the Greek and English (level B1) language.
The evaluation of the candidacies will be based on the following criteria and qualifications:
Qualifications
| Points | Evaluation criteria |
Diploma grade | 70 | Diploma grade X 7 points |
Experience in measurements of atmospheric pollutants using state-of-the-art instrumentation or low-cost sensors | 30 | 5 points per month with a maximum of 30 points |
Overall | 100 |
Application Submission
Interested candidates who meet the aforementioned requirements should submit their applications, no later than 28/9/2022, 16:00, by email to Kleanthi Zacharopoulou: kleanthi@iceht.forth.gr.
