About

Outline

The Doctorate in Cultural Heritage, Education and Territory is the result of the aggregation of different disciplinary areas and research experiences, including archaeology, art history, music history, ethnomusicology, history of cinema and theater, education, psychology, geography. The course is structured in four curricula ("Archaeological and Historical-Artistic Heritage", "Education", "Music and Entertainment", "Landscape and Territory"), each of which is characterized by the presence of related, contiguous or compatible sectors.

The doctorate has been classified as "innovative" (according to the ministerial guidelines for accreditation, dated February 1, 2019) both for the presence in the board of teachers of members from qualified foreign universities for at least 25% ("international" requirement), and for being in agreement with important museums, research bodies and companies ("intersectoral" requirement), among which we can mention the Uffizi Galleries, some institutes of the National Research Council (the Institute for BioEconomics, the Institute of Cultural Heritage Sciences and the Institute of History of Mediterranean Europe), the National Academy of San Luca and Federalberghi. These relationships allow doctoral students to interact not only with universities of truly international level, but also with research, museum and entrepreneurial contexts usually not present in an academic field of humanistic type. The conventions stipulated by the Doctorate with museums, research institutions and companies are indicated in detail on the website, in the individual sections of the curricula.

The three-year course aims to promote not only the formation of scholars, for the best of whom it is hoped to enter the university career, but also high-profile professionals able to carry out research, management and design in public and private institutions, including international ones.

The educational path of the doctoral students of the first and second year is characterized by the compulsory attendance of at least 80% of the educational offer (lectures, seminars, conferences, laboratories) proposed by the curriculum of belonging. The didactic activity also implies ad hoc teaching, for which a final check is foreseen. The passage of the year of each doctoral student occurs following the presentation of the progress of his or her research, during seminar meetings scheduled within each curriculum, in the presence of the doctoral students of all cycles of the curriculum and their tutors.
