Outline
Cardiff University's School of Modern Languages and the Department of Politics/ International Relations, supported by the ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership for Wales (Wales DTP), invite applications for funded PhD study. The following collaborative studentships are available:
- ESRC Wales DTP PhD studentship in Global Language-Based Area Studies: Multilingual Literacy in Schools in Wales
- ESRC Wales DTP PhD studentship in Global Language-Based Area Studies: Evaluating Welsh Cultural Policy with reference to Sino-Welsh Exchanges
This studentship also enjoys in-kind support from the Welsh government in the form of support from the three educational consortia which are piloting multilingual literacy. It also involves financial support from, and an internship with, the British Council in Wales.

ESRC studentships are highly competitive, candidates should have an excellent academic background in the social sciences, holding a 1st or strong upper 2nd class degree. Applications from those also holding a relevant research training Masters degree (or an equivalent background in research training) will be considered for a +3 award. Full awards (fees plus maintenance stipend) are open to UK Nationals and EU students who can satisfy UK residency requirements. |
