Offer Description
A Call for one fellowship for R&D activities to be carried out by a researcher with a Master degree (BI) is open Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud (Champalimaud Foundation) in the context of the project PTDC/BTM-SAL/3796/2021 - "Ovarian Cancer Avatars for personalized therapy, a combination of in vivo & ex-vivo models to guarantee a test for every patient.” – financed by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), through Portuguese National Funds (OE).
Subject of Activities:
- Primary sample reception and processing
- Cell culture maintenance;
- Zebrafish line maintenance;
- Generation of zebrafish patient derived xenografts;
- Immunofluorescence and image analysis;
- In vivo imaging: confocal and light-sheet microscopy;
- DNA extraction, PCR’s, etc.

Duration: The Fellowship will have the duration of 18 months, renewable for additional periods until a maximum of 24 months, not exceeding the end date of the project 31/12/2024, and is expected to start in 01/01/2023, in exclusiveness regime, as regulated by Lei n.º 40/2004, de 18 de Agosto, FCT (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica) and the FCT Research Fellowship Regulations (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2019.pdf), as well as the Fellowship Regulations of the Champalimaud Foundation.
Monthly Stipend: 1.144,64€ as determined by FCT, I.P. Scientific Fellowships regulations for Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) and the Fellowship Regulations of the Champalimaud Foundation. Potentially, this value can be increased with Champalimaud Foundation internal funds, according to experience and performance. The fellowship will be paid monthly by bank transfer. The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance scheme.
National, Foreign or Stateless candidate(s) who hold a MSc in Biomedicine and Oncobiology and a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed. The candidate should be proficient in handling patient samples, including tumor resected samples, ascitic fluid and pleural effusion liquids. In addition, the candidate should be expert in microinjection for generation of zebrafish patient derived xenografts of tumor samples; experience in cell culture with cancer cell lines and patient-derived cells, zebrafish handling and confocal microscopy.
In case of PhD degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12th of October, and all formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the deadline for application submission.
Methods of selection: The candidate’s selection will fully observe all applicable legislation and will consist in the evaluation of the scientific and curricular backgrounds of the candidates, with particular attention given to the relevance, quality, actuality and adequacy of the aforementioned backgrounds, to be weighed as follows:
- motivation letter: 15%;
- curriculum vitae: 70%.
Evaluation scale: Each application shall be evaluated by the jury in a scale from 0% (not adequate) to 85% (excellent). Should there be a draw, candidates will be invited to interview (5%), reference letters shall be requested (5%) and it shall also by evaluated the potential contribution of the candidate to the ongoing Lab's research (5%).

Notification of Results:
All candidates will receive a receipt of acknowledgment within 7-10 business days. The highest scoring candidate will be notified by email or telephone. All other candidates will be notified solely by email of the final outcome of the recruitment process.
After being notified, candidates will have 10 working days to present a claim for redress by email (careers@research.fchampalimaud.org). If no claim is received by the Champalimaud Foundation, the Evaluation Committee's decision will become definitive.
