Offer Description

Eurac Research is an interdisciplinary research centre located in Bolzano, Italy. At the Institute for Earth Observation (EO) we do research on monitoring of environmental parameter and processes with earth observation and climate data in mountain regions and are hosting a huge amount of earth observation data for the alpine region on our in-house compute and storage clusters. The person we are looking for will contribute to research in our institute by supporting our ongoing development of openEO based on cloud native technologies pushing the frontiers of distributed and federated computing in Earth Observation. Skills/Qualifications

Continues Development of openEO back-end in cloud native environments

Optimization of scalable compute tasks in distributed compute environment (cloud & HPC), including CPU and GPU based nodes.

Integration of object storage into openEO collections

Logging and error tracking in distributed and micro service-based architecture

Specific Requirements

Requirements:

Essential

Degree in geo-informatics, computer science, informatics engineering or similar qualification

Knowledge of container-based cluster computing (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)

Knowledge of HPC computing and the usage of tools such as Slurm

Experience working with a Linux environment and command-line (shell)

Experience with the usage of version control systems, preferably git, and with GitHub/GitLab platform and their CI/CD integrations.

Experience with SQL and database management systems, e.g. PostgreSQL.

Deep knowledge in at least one programming language; preferably python and/or java.

Good understanding and experience of geospatial data (raster & vector)

Ability in team working, good communication, motivation to learn and flexibility.

Very good English (spoken and written). German and/or Italian skills are highly appreciated

Relocating to Bolzano

Desired

Data analysis and visualization skills for spatial and temporal data

Experience in earth observation, climate science or meteorology methods and software including image pre-processing, classification, statistical analysis and machine learning

Experience in programming in the GEO, Climate or Earth Observation domain

Knowledge of Databases for raster management such as open data cube or Rasdaman

Knowledge of earth observation software tools such as Sentinel (SNAP) or Orfeo Toolboxes

Knowledge of GIS Systems (GRASS software suite, QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.)
