Offer Description
Postdoctoral researcher will work on the Human-Mosquito Interaction Project (H-MIP) under the supervision of Dr. John Palmer. The position will be ideally starting on January 2023 at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain), Department of Social and Political Sciences.
Tasks:
- The researcher will carry out laboratory work and analysis of human and mosquito DNA samples collected from research sites throughout Catalonia in order to better understand the human-mosquito networks through which mosquito-borne diseases pass.
- The laboratory work will be conducted at the Spanish National Research Council’s Center for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB-CSIC).
We are looking for a researcher with a strong background in genetic analysis of multiple species and an interest in the socio-ecological questions involved in human-mosquito interaction.
Requirements
Required qualifications for candidate: (Note: candidates should fulfill all six requirements)
- PhD degree in genetics, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in genetic analysis of human DNA in mosquito blood meals for purposes of inferring the number of different individuals bitten
- Demonstrated experience in planning and carrying out mosquito research
- A very solid background in quantitative analysis
- Demonstrated high level of fluency in written academic English by means of first authored published work in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Ability to work independently on the generation of publications and reports.

Salary/duration/benefits/facilities
The candidate will work 37,5hper week, for a duration of 12 months preferably start in January, 2023, with a gross salary 36.759,72euros depending on qualifications and experience. The position is initially for 1 year but may be extended for longer depending on project needs.
The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish public health and social security system, as well as additional financial support for the participation in project-relevant conferences and scientific meetings.
