YOUR TEAM
You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team, where researchers from a range of scientific and engineering backgrounds collaborate to create novel solutions to key problems in robotics.
The Dept. of Advanced Robotics, directed by Prof Darwin Caldwell, focuses on an innovative, multidisciplinary approach to robot design and control, and the development of novel robotic components and technologies for applications in medical, surgical and rehabilitation robotics, exoskeletons and force augmentation, manipulation and dexterous manipulators, telepresence and teleoperation, industrial automation and robotics, active perception and learning, inspection robotics, hyper-redundant robots, robot dynamics and “fast” robot and robots for hazardous environments.
The Wearable Robots, Exoskeletons and Exosuits Laboratory (XoLab) is focused on the development of wearable assistive devices for industrial and medical applications. The objective of these devices is to assist people during physical activities. Target users range from industrial workers, aiming to reduce musculoskeletal loads and the associated risk of injuries, to people with movement impairments due to conditions such as stroke or spinal injury, aiming to enable to carry out activities of daily living.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Design of parts and assemblies for wearable devices
Development and assembly of fast prototypes
Development and assembly of final prototypes
Interaction with workshops and evaluation of manufacturers and suppliers of nonstandard parts
Collaboration with other engineering disciplines, such as mechatronics, electronics, control, software, bioengineering and ergonomics, to ensure the successful integration of their designs with the rest of the system.
This position is financed by INAIL (“Istituto Nazionale per l'Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro” – Italian Worker’s Compensation Authority) within the Collaborative Cybernetic Systems - Falls from Heights (Systemi Cibernetici Collaborativi – Cadute dall’Alto” project.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
A Master degree in mechanical engineering, or related fields
Documented experience in mechanical design
Excellent CAD design skills
Good hands-on skills
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
Experience in design for manufacturing
Experience in wearable devices
Good communication skills
Good spoken and written English
Strong problem solving abilities
Highly motivated
Innovative and creative
Good time and priority management
Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
