Commitment & contract: collaboration contract, 12 months

YOUR TEAM

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where physicists, chemists, biologists, and electrical engineers collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.

The Plasmon Nanotechnologies Research line is coordinated by Francesco De Angelis, who has extensive experience in nano-optics, biosensing and bioelectronics.

The research focuses on developing radically new interfaces between human cells and nanosensors, including optical and electrical sensors (such as MEA-electrodes, CMOS-arrays or optical biosensors). The aim is develop new approaches for monitoring the electrical activity of human cells and their response to external stimuli. In particular, we aim to conceive effective approaches for pharmacological screenings and for evaluating neurotoxicity and cardio-toxicity.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • To design novel devices, materials and systems for electrophysiological studies of human tissues
  • To perform in-vitro experiments with cultured cells

This open position/research is financed by European Innovation Council (EIC) within the TOX-Free (ID: 964518) project.

 WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU SHINE

  • A PhD in Physics, Engineering, or related field
  • Documented experience on the development and use of bio-materials, bioelectronics devices and systems for recording electrical activity of neuronal and cardiac cells
  • A strong publication record
  • The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
  • Documented experience in coaching junior scientists
  • Good command in spoken and written English

EXTRA AWESOME

  • Experience on advanced cell cultures techniques or neuro-prosthetics
  • Knowledge of both experimental design and theoretical modeling
  • Good communication skills
