The Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology at Tallinn University of Technology invites to apply for an assistant professor position in the field of Synthetic Flow Chemistry.

The Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology was created in the School of Science in 2017, the department merged the former Institute of Chemistry and the Institute of Gene Technology from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Institute of Food Science from the Faculty of Chemistry and Materials Technology. Currently 25 research groups operate in the department’s interdisciplinary and international environment. The department’s recent scientific discoveries in chemistry, molecular biology and food technology have opened up completely new perspectives in the fields of medicine, industry, agriculture and environmental protection.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The goal of the assistant professor position is to develop the competence in synthetic flow chemistry at Tallinn University of Technology.

Tasks:

  • carrying out and organisation of research and development in the field, leading related research projects and applying for competitive research funding;
  • development of cooperation with other research and development institutions and companies;
  • development of infrastructure required for research and development in the field of synthetic flow chemistry;
  • teaching, research and development activities according to the Academic Career Management Regulation in the field of synthetic flow chemistry in balanced proportions;
  • supervision of doctoral, master's and bachelor's students in conducting independent research;
  • publication of the results of research and development; working as an expert in the field;
  • teaching (also at bachelor’s level, but focusing on master’s and doctoral level) and development of studies by using up-to-date methodologies and educational technology in the field of chemistry;
  • expected lines of research and development: sustainable chemistry.

Accompanying tasks: participation in the work of national and international professional decision-making bodies and committees; cooperation with the editorial boards of scientific journals, reviewing research articles; popularisation of the speciality and area of research; coordinating continuous education training in the field.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CANDIDATE

  • a PhD degree in a field of research related to the field of activity, a thesis defended within the last ten years;
  • previous international work experience in the field of research relevant to the field of activity;
  • experience in research and development as an applicant for a research topic and as a principal investigator;
  • experience in pedagogical work, including in supervision of students and teaching, is an advantage;
  • must have published research papers in the volume of two doctoral theses and h-index for papers in engineering sciences ≥ 6; the level of scientific publications and number of citations must be comparable to the ones of the professors in the same field at the university reference universities;
  • participation in the work of professional or scientific organizations and networks;
  • participation in public engagement activities;
  • language skills: advanced English, Estonian language supports taking up the position (acquisition of advanced Estonian language is necessary in the long run).
