Offer Description

The Centre NanoSYD at The Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites you for a 2-year Postdoc position in focused ion beam modification and optical characterization of 2D materials. The starting date for the position is March 1, 2023. The application deadline is November 30, 2022.

The SuperQE project

Single quantum emitters (SQEs) have become a versatile tool for developing new light sources, such as lasers, LEDs, and single-photon sources, for nano-electronic devices, and in chemistry and life sciences. In this research project, we will apply Helium focused ion beam for site-selective doping of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) monolayer flakes placed on top of plasmonic cavities forming a hybrid system. If successful, we will create superradiant emission of light by coupling single photon emitters.

 Tasks:

  • Fabrication of TMDC-plasmonic hybrid systems.
  • Site-selective focused Helium ion beam doping.
  • Characterization of the emitted light by photoluminescence lifetime measurements.
  • Dissemination of results.

What we offer

You will be affiliated with the nanoscience centre NanoSYD at the Mads Clausen Institute. The institute is located at SDU's beautiful campus in Sønderborg, in the inspiring building of Alsion, which is a centre for science, culture and learning in the heart of Sønderborg and perched on the strait of water separating the island of Als from the mainland.

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group where scientists and engineers support each other to advance nanoscience and technology. We offer a stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment for conducting research of high quality.

You will support a trans-disciplinary team engaged in nanoscience and technology.

What we expect

We are looking for a highly committed, competent, and enthusiastic scientist with:

  • A recent PhD degree in physics, chemistry or materials science
  • A background in either 2D materials, focused ion beam nanofabrication or time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy/microscopy
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written
  • Good collaboration and communication skills
