Research
To further consolidate and broaden these research activities in theoretical physics the Department of Physics and Astronomy at KU Leuven is looking to appoint a part-time professor. We are looking for highly motivated candidates who will contribute to the research activities of the theoretical physics group through regular visits to Leuven, active collaboration with members of the Institute for Theoretical Physics and supervision of master thesis students, graduate students or postdocs. The position is remunerated at the 10% level at a rate determined by the academic seniority of the appointed candidate. This appointment permits the candidate to supervise PhD and master students and to apply for research funding from the Flemish, Belgian and European funding agencies. 
The ideal candidate for this position is a person with a permanent full-time academic appointment outside Leuven and a complementary expertise, looking for active collaboration with the members of the theoretical physics group. In particular we are looking for candidates with research interests in either holography, including quantum information, black hole and gravitational physics, or theoretical cosmology. 
Teaching
The candidate is expected to take up a teaching assignment, comprising the supervision of master thesis students (in English) and comprising the possibility to teach (in English) advanced graduate level courses in theoretical physics. 
Service
The candidate is expected to contribute to serving the university as part-time professor of KU Leuven. This includes the opportunity to provide scientific, social and internal services.

Eligibility criteria

The candidate holds a PhD degree in theoretical physics, possesses a leading research profile with experience in international collaborations and has a feel for organisation and leadership in an academic context.

A good command of English is required. KU Leuven provides courses in academic English.

The official administrative language used at KU Leuven is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch (or do not speak it well) at the start of employment, KU Leuven will provide language training to enable you to take part in meetings. 

Your teaching assignment is in English but the possibility to teach in Dutch is also open for you. Before teaching courses in Dutch or English, if any, you will be given the opportunity to learn Dutch, respectively English, to the required standard.
