The holder of this position will be involved in the experimental research of the Group for Quantum Technologies in the Center for Advanced Laser Techniques at the Institute of Physics in Zagreb, and will participate in development of quantum sensors and simulators based on cold atoms. The supervisor (mentor) is Dr. Ticijana Ban (ticijana@ifs.hr).
The first stage researcher will participate in the development of an optical atomic clock based on cold strontium atoms as well as in the dissemination of the optical clock frequency to users, for the purpose of the atomic clocks synchronization. The aforementioned research will be carried out within the Horizon project called Deployment of the first experimental QCI systems and network in the Republic of Croatia (CroQCI) with a duration of 30 months. In the following, the first stage researcher will investigate the quantum dynamics of globally-connected networks through investigation of the cold atoms trapped in complex optical potential inside an optical resonator that exhibit a long-range interactions, and are important for understanding the influence of the environment on quantum computing.
Research methods include high-resolution laser spectroscopy, frequency stabilization techniques of continuous-wave lasers and optical frequency combs, and laser cooling and trapping techniques.
Candidates are expected to have very good knowledge of atomic physics, high motivation to work in the laboratory on the described topic, and excellent knowledge of the English language.
Priority will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in studies and research work (recognitions, awards, scholarships, published works, presentations at conferences, etc.).
Hands-on experience with the research topic, including experimental techniques, is an advantage.
