Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT), offers:

MARIE SKLODOWSKA-CURIE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

Place/unit of incorporation

Parc Taulí Research and Innovation Institute is seeking a candidate to apply for a ‘MARIE SKLODOWSKA-CURIE’ grant from European Comission.

The candidate will have the opportunity to serve as the principal investigator of a project covering the strategic lines of any research group currently forming part of I3PT, with the opportunity of establishing and leading a research group.

The I3PT is a young and growing research centre. Born in 2015, it was recognized as a CERCA centre in 2021 and accredited as a Health Research Institute by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III in 2023.

The Institute comprises 9 research areas, two of which are transversal, currently forming a total of 28 research groups.

  • Cancer: The area of ​​cancer research has been structured into three different pillars: clinical research, translational laboratory research and innovation in cancer diagnosis and treatment. This area is headed by Dr. Miquel Àngel Seguí. Currently, the majority of activity in the Cancer area focuses on research into new oncological therapies, study of biomarkers involved in the prognosis and prediction of the effectiveness of oncological treatments and search for new diagnostic tools based on artificial intelligence.
  • Neuroscience and Mental Health: The Neuroscience and Mental Health research area is made up of a multidisciplinary group: psychiatry, neurology, psychology, neuropsychology, nursing, rehabilitation medicine, genetics and other research members with a common interest in improving knowledge and approach. of neurological and psychiatric diseases. This area is headed by Dr. Diego Palao Vidal. Currently, the majority of activity in the Neuroscience and Mental Health area focuses on application of new digital technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health pathologies, prevention and promotion of mental health in the young adult population and translational research for the development of specific markers and biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatment of mental health pathologies.
  • Metabolism and Digestive: The Metabolism and Digestive research area is made up of a multidisciplinary group that they have in common research in metabolic or digestive system diseases. This area is headed by Dr. Assupta Caixàs Pedragós. Currently, the majority of activity in the Metabolism and Digestive area focuses on Obesity, Prader-Willi Syndrome and hyperphagia, Diabetes: cardiovascular risk and new technologies, inflammatory bowel disease and application of new digital and biotechnological technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic and digestive diseases.
  • Rare Diseases: The mission of the Rare Diseases area is to investigate and advance those groups of diseases in which the Parc Taulí Health Corporation is a reference centre for their diagnosis and treatment. This area is headed by Dr. Raquel Corripio Collado. Currently, the majority of activity in the Rare Diseases area focuses on study of minority diseases prevalent in our population; childhood obesity, genetically based intellectual disability, Prader Willy syndrome, cystic fibrosis, application of bioinformatics for the improvement of diagnosis and treatment, study of disorders during puberty and childhood and juvenile diabetes.
  • Epidemiology, Care Improvement and Chronicity: The research area of ​​Epidemiology, Care Improvement and Chronicity is made up of a multidisciplinary group of professionals from the Corporation (Hospital de Sabadell, Albada Sociosanitary Center, Primary Care and Sabadell Elderly). This area is headed by Dr. Gemma Navarro Rubio. Currently, the majority of activity in the Epidemiology, Care Improvement and Chronicity area focuses on study of the impact of COVID-19 infections and other pandemics, improving chronic patient care, nursing assessment and care and quality, safety and traceability of the patient cared for by health services.
  • Infections and Immunology: The research area in Infections and Immunology is created to bring together translational research in inflammatory and infectious diseases, clinical microbiology and immunology, with the aim of optimizing the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and prevention of infectious diseases. This area actively contributes to the surveillance of health problems arising from infection and its prevention. This area is headed by Dr. Jordi Gratacós Masmitjà. Currently, the majority of activity in the Infections and Immunology area focuses on application of genomics, microbiology and proteomics in clinical research, application of new technologies such as artificial intelligence or Big Data analysis to develop techniques for early diagnosis and support for clinical decision making, new methodologies of network research work at different levels of care, search for new biomarkers for the diagnosis and treatments of infectious, immune and inflammatory diseases.
  • Surgery and Interventional Procedures: The area of ​​research in Surgery and Interventional Procedures brings together professionals from different fields and disciplines who carry out their scientific activity with the aim of generating knowledge of clinical application and generating technological innovations that improve healthcare practice. This area is headed by Dr. Xavier Serra-Aracil. Currently, the majority of activity in the Surgery and Interventional Procedures area focuses on the application of new technologies for the reduction of invasive procedures, application of artificial intelligence in Big Data and image analysis to generate prediction and diagnostic algorithms and application of 3D printing technology to improve efficiency and quality in surgical procedures and interventions.
  • Omics Sciences: The Omics Sciences area is one of the transversal areas across all groups at the Institute, enabling participation in multidisciplinary projects. This area is headed by Dr. Víctor Manuel Martínez Gonzalez, a clinical geneticist and researcher in genomic medicine and rare diseases, and current director of the Centre for Genomic Medicine at Parc Taulí. Currently, the majority of activity in the Omics Sciences area focuses on genomics, yet we are open to other lines of research related to various Omics Sciences and Bioinformatics.
  • Data and Technological Innovation in Health: The Data and Technological Innovation in Health area is one of the transversal areas across all groups at the Institute, enabling participation in multidisciplinary projects. This area is headed by Anna Benavent Navarro. Currently, the majority of activity in the Data and Technological Innovation in Health area focuses on artificial intelligence applied to clinical data and medical imaging, device and IoT connectivity, virtual reality, 3d printing technology and applications of 5G technology to healthcare improvement.

In this regard, we are seeking a professional in any of the above fields, possessing experience and autonomy, and with defined ideas about their research interests.

Duties:

  • Execute the designed research project
  • Publish scientific articles
  • Design, plan and lead competitive projects
  • Apply for national and international competitive funding calls.
  • Establish collaboration with other researchers within the institution, as well as other institutions, especially in the international area.

Job:

Principal investigator in any of the research groups that are part of the I3PT.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be postdoctoral researchers, meaning they must hold a doctoral degree by the application deadline. Applicants who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but have not yet formally obtained the doctoral degree will also be considered postdoctoral researchers and deemed eligible.
  • As of the application deadline, candidates must have a maximum of 8 years of full-time postdoctoral research experience (counted from the date of obtaining the doctoral degree). Years of experience outside of research and professional interruptions (e.g., maternity or paternity leave) will not be counted towards the years of research experience. For nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Associated Countries with Horizon Europe wishing to reintegrate to continue their research career in EU Member States or Associated Countries, years of research experience in third countries will not be considered in the aforementioned count.
  • Compliance with the mobility rule: applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the destination country for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately preceding the deadline for the call. Researchers wishing to reintegrate from a third country to a European or associated country must be based in the third country by the application deadline or have moved directly from a third country to a Member State or Associated Country in the last 12 months before the deadline for the call.
  • Candidates may hold any nationality; however, researchers wishing to reintegrate into a Member or Associated Country must be nationals or long-term residents of an EU Member State or Associated with Horizon Europe. Long-term residents will be those researchers who are not EU nationals but have resided in an EU country with a research contract for 5 consecutive years.

The selected individual must apply for a MARIE SKLODOWSKA-CURIE European Fellowships with our institution. Once granted, you will have the opportunity to join the I3PT to lead a research project, with the opportunity of focusing on your research lines of interest, provided they align with the interests of the selected area. Moreover, the candidate will have the opportunity to establish and lead their own research group.

 

The working conditions are established in the bases of the MARIE SKLODOWSKA-CURIE European Fellowship aid, providing a 24-months contract. The contract also includes additional aid to cover research expenses, the amount of which is stipulated in the terms of the call. After this period, the candidate will have the opportunity to opt for stabilization within the Institute as a researcher. This possibility will be conditioned by obtaining good results in the scientific activity and the projection of the candidate, under the conditions agreed with the direction of the Institute.

 

Selection process

In compliance with the LISMI, the Foundation will contemplate the reservation for candidates who prove a disability equal to or greater than 33%, provided they are suitable for the development of the functions to be performed.
