Offer Description
The grant of Research project BIO4MED - Implementation of innovative strategies to increase sustainability in perennial Mediterranean crops (N.º 10/C05-i03/2021 - PRR-C05-i03-I-000083) is financied by the “PRR - Recovery and Resilience Plan” and by the “NextGenerationEU”. The Grant will have a duration of 12 months, starting on 27/05/2024 (with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of 18 months).
The tender is open in the period between 29/04/2024 and 14/05/2024.
The Work plan comprises: Implementation of soil improvement actions, in the intervention area, through the installation of cover crops, rich in legumes, and bioengineering techniques in áreas with evidence of erosion processes; Effective management of cover crops with a focus on reducing the risk of erosion, and conserving/increasing the organic matter content and carbon storage in the soil; Monitoring and evaluation of soil resource quality indicators; Communication, awareness raising, and sharing knowledge, and providing relevant management information, based on a strategy of proximity and rural extension.
The main goals are: Implement sustainable soil management techniques, in the intervention area, that promote soil conservation and quality; Collect data and samples in the field (soil, vegetation); Carry out physical and chemical analysis of samples in the laboratory (soil, vegetation); Evaluate the effects of soil management techniques on the productive and environmental functions of the soil; Share information, knowledge and good practices with local populations managing the territory.

Applicants must have a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, or a related field, with basic training and interest in the theme of Management and Conservation of Soil and Water Resources.
Candidates must present skills in the: experience in fieldwork: soil sample, erosive processes, plant biomass assessment; experience in laboratory work: soil physical and chemical analysis; domain in the use of geographical information systems; data processing; fluency in portuguese and english languages; enrolled in a Ph.D. program in an area of interest to the project or in a non-degree course at a higher education institution.

Additional Information
The scholarship amount corresponds to 1.259,64 euros, according to the table of scholarships awarded by the FCT, I.P. in the country.
The scholarship holder will benefit from a personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the exercise of the right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, pursuant to the Code of Contribution Regimes of the Social Security Social Security System. The scholarship amount will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
Applicants must have a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences, or a related field; enrolled in a Ph.D. program in an area of interest to the project or in a non-degree course at a higher education institution.
The selection methods to be used will be the following:
Classification of the academic path and quality of the CV (35%), research experience or professional activity in the areas described in the work plan (35%), suitability of the profile to the work plan (20%), motivation (10%).
The communications and final results of the evaluation will be published via the IPB application submission portal or, if necessary, via email notification.
If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to comment, if they wish, in a prior hearing, under the terms set out in the Code of Administrative Procedure.
The final decision may be appealed to the President of the IPB within 15 working days after the respective notification.
Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma, may be dispensed with during the application stage, being replaced by a declaration of honor by the candidate, and verification of this condition is mandatory during the grant contracting stage.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
