Offer Description

Research work (field, laboratory and office tasks), in particular the geoarchaeological study of sites located in Central Asia and Central Europe, with particular emphasis on micromorphological analyzes of sediments. Organizing and participating in field works. Preparing research reports, scientific publications and conference presentations.

Skills/Qualifications
  • Education (at least a Master's degree) in Earth sciences;
  • Experience in micromorphological analyzes of Quaternary sediments, confirmed by publications;
  • Experience in working at archaeological sites, confirmed by publications;
  • Experience in conducting geoarchaeological research;
  • Experience in field work, including collecting geological samples (including micromorphological ones) and readiness to conduct long-term field works in demanding conditions (central Asia, continental climate, mountains, high altitudes, the need to communicate with local researchers);
  • Ability to prepare thin sections from micromorphological samples;
  • Ability to analyze thin plates in optical, SEM, cathodoluminescence and fluorescence microscopes;
  • Ability to prepare samples of clastic sediments for analysis of grain size, mineral composition and chemical composition;
  • Experience working in a laboratory;
  • Ability to prepare scientific publications and conference presentations, confirmed by at least one first-authored publication, at least one participation in a publication as a corresponding author, and at least one paper presented at an international conference;
  • Fluent knowledge of English, communicative knowledge of Polish;
  • Ability to work in a team, commitment, discipline, punctuality.

Selection process

The position is to be filled not later than in June 2024.

The decisive criteria for positive consideration of candidates will be: publication record, experience in geoarchaeology, ability to conduct micromorphological analyses, and communication skills.

The Institute reserves the rights to contact selected candidates. The applications will be assessed by an independent evaluation committee, whose responsibility will be to rank the candidates according to their merits and potential. Based on this assessment, the Institute will sign the contract with the successful candidate.
