Offer Description

In cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis e. V. (LIKAT), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Rostock is seeking to fill a

W3-Professorship for "Applied Catalysis"

at the earliest possible date, subject to budgetary regulations. The future research of the person to be appointed should be in the field of applied catalysis and focus on one of the following areas:

  • application relevant homogeneous catalysis or
  • application relevant photocatalysis or
  • reaction engineering of application-relevant catalytic reactions.

The person should have already led cooperation projects with private-sector companies in one of the above-mentioned research areas and also have extensive experience in acquiring public third-party funding. They should have attracted international attention with innovative research projects and have corresponding scientific publications.

The position includes the assumption and responsibility of a research area with existing staff and infrastructure at LIKAT. The willingness to engage in intensive interdisciplinary exchange and cooperation with the established research areas within the framework of LIKAT's thematic fields as well as active participation in interdisciplinary research networks is expected.

The position requires a focus on equality and anti-discrimination, a high level of social and intercultural skills, a motivating, appreciative management style, collegiality as well as communication and teamwork skills.

A central goal of the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis is the transfer of scientific results for the benefit of society. Future job holders are expected to contribute to the fulfillment of this goal. In addition, participation in the profile lines of the University of Rostock is desired.

The requirements for appointment are determined in accordance with § 58 para. 1 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (LHG M-V): completed university studies, doctorate, experience in teaching, habilitation or comparable scientific achievements, usually in the context of a junior professorship.

The appointment is made according to the Berlin Model. In accordance with § 61 LHG M-V, the professorship will be filled by a lifetime civil servant or, if necessary, by a temporary civil servant for a period of 5 years. It is also possible to fill the position as a regular state employee.

The teaching duties are regulated in the cooperation agreement between LIKAT and the University of Rostock. The content of the lectures will be coordinated with the Institute of Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Active involvement in teaching is expected. Teaching experience in industrial and applied catalysis is desirable.

Special skills and achievements in teaching as well as in scientific organization and academic self-administration will be taken into account. For this purpose, the results in teaching, the ideas for future teaching including the didactic design of courses must be presented and the experience in scientific management must be described.
