PRO-CLIMATE is a €4m Horizon EUROPE - funded research project to investigate the drivers and barriers to behavioural change, explore pathways towards achieving effective governance and organizational improvements for example in processes and procedures, to enable and enhance climate resilience lead by Tero Monoprosopi IKE, Greece.

The overall aim of PRO-CLIMATE is to design, implement, and evaluate a novel living lab framework which integrates state-of-the-art knowledge and innovative conceptualization with an established methodology to build inclusive coalitions of local municipal actors and academic partners to study in situ environmental studies, behavioural change and governance 

strategies to implement systemic transformations for climate resilience.  To do this, PRO-CLIMATE will combine a novel conceptualization of social tipping points in Social-ecological Systems (SES) with practical experimentation and implementation which builds on strong established relationships with our 6 city/region case studies [Gdańsk (Poland), Leipzig (Germany), Bergen (Norway), Badajoz (Spain), Zakynthos (Greece) and Sligo, (Ireland)].

The Assistant will be a highly motivated  PhD student or a graduates of the master's studies in the area of Geography and environmental studies. The Assistant will be responsible for supporting the UG Coastal City Living Lab project team in implementing the programmes of work specified for UG’s research activity in the PRO-CLIMATE project and supporting the project partners as part of the collaborative research program. The Assistant will be in charge of the following tasks:

  • readiness to undertake research in the field of:
  1. designing, implementing, and evaluating of a living lab framework
  2. co-creation and co-designing local climate adaptation strategies
  3. identification of key components of climate adaptation systems and their interactions (especially the context of extreme phenomena in Gdańsk such as torrential rain)
  4. supporting the  development of the multi agent computer model (MACM) - Gdańsk case study
  5. launching the TransCliR (Transformations to Climate Resilience) tool
  6. contributing to piloting and evaluating the project’s behaviour change and social transformation activities
  7. identification of social tipping points in social-ecological systems (SES) in Gdańsk case study

 

  • to lead and implement a number of PRO-CLIMATE project research tasks (including drafting required reports and research articles)
  • to support the organisation, preparation and follow up of periodical meetings and tasks meetings
  • to facilitate knowledge production and exchange between and amongst the living labs and beyond, using a targeted communication strategy
  • to build internal & external networking and relationships in the project LLs
  • to perform the day-to-day finances of the overall project, including  checking of invoices and deliveries and preparing financial reports
  • cooperation with CCCL UG and the SCORE project partners

  • A master’s degree in Geography or Earth sciences status of a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences.
  • Aspiring candidates should have a solid background in a living lab concept and environmental studies.
  • Ability to analyzing of past extreme events and preparing environmental and socio-economic scenarios in climate change research.
  • Competence and research interests fitting to the Pro-Climate project.
  • Experience with applied scientific research (publications, scientific conferences, workshops and other activities).
  • Experience in working in EU-funded projects.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to spend weeks in the field for data collection.
  • Ability to take part in many project meetings in Poland and abroad.
