Offer Description

Introduction

Are you an Electrical or Electromechanical Technical Engineer with a passion for challenging projects in the field of particle physics experiments? Do you have experience with the integration and installation of services (cables, water pipes, etc.) in industrial premises or large experiment? Then seize the opportunity and join the ATLAS team in CERN’s Experimental Physics Department and contribute to the construction of the next Upgrade program of the ATLAS experiment.

You will join:

  • The Experimental Physics (EP) Department which carries out basic research in the field of experimental particle physics in a stimulating scientific atmosphere, standing as an important reference for the European physics community. It also contributes to the education and training of young scientists.
  • The ATLAS Detector Operation group (ADO) group which has major responsibilities in the ATLAS detector operation, maintenance, and future upgrades
  • The Project Office section (PO) is in charge of operating, maintaining, and upgrading the infrastructure of the ATLAS experiment and detector.

Functions

You will integrate the ATLAS Technical coordination team and ensure the successful installation of the new services inside the detector. Under the direct supervision of the project engineer, and in close collaboration with the other engineers and technicians involved in the project, you will in a first stage prepare the procedures and organise the future installation work of cables and pipes in the ATLAS detector, then during the Long Shutdown of the Collider, you will supervise and coordinate several international teams of technicians in charge of removing old services and installing new ones

In particular you will:

  • Get familiar with the environment of the detector and the routing of services considering technical constraints, present and future layout, space limitations, accessibility, and feasibility of the installation;
  • Produce detailed operating procedures for installation/removal of services, including aspects such as safety, insurance quality, and control;
  • Participate to the preparation of the logistics needed to perform the installation work on the experimental site (construction site base, tooling procurement, material storage, etc);
  • Coordinate, together with the project engineer, technical teams (25-30 persons) in charge of the services installation, with particular attention to the conformity of work and the compliance to the time schedule;
  • Prepare the work order (IMPACT), risk assessment documents, access request;
  • Organize the identification of the cables and cable trays and fill the existing database;
  • Supervise installation of cooling pipes and manifolds in the detector environment;
  • Provide information to the designers and contribute to the integration of routing into the 3D model of the detector, in Catia V5 environment;

  • Experience in interacting with multidisciplinary teams;
  • Experience in pipes installation would be an asset.

Technical competencies:

  • Organisation, planning and control, including work supervision;
  • Assembly and integration of infrastructure for detectors or experimental facilities; definition and installation of services;
  • Decommissioning and disposal of detector components and systems, definition of procedures for services removal;
