Offer Description

The Institute of Chemistry and Biology of Membranes and Nano-objects is a multidisciplinary institute at the interface between physics, chemistry and biology. It hosts 15 research teams and has a very large number of structural biophysics platforms (NMR, X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, etc.). The NMR group of the Institute of Chemistry and Biology of Membranes and Nanoobjects at Pessac is seeking a motivated candidate for a PhD position to work on a project funded by the ANR in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy of cell wall polysaccharides. The project is aimed at identifying and characterize the cell wall components using advanced NMR techniques combined with molecular dynamics. The successful candidate will be recruited for 36 months.

The project is focused on exploring the molecular architecture of the cell wall of several microorganisms. These cell wall structures are made of proteins, lipids and polysaccharides and are crucial components of the cell envelope. They possess a complex molecular architecture that is still challenging to characterize. Here we aim at investigating the structural and dynamic organization of these cell wall structures. Solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and molecular dynamics will be the main methods to decipher at atomic detail their architectures.
