Printed Near-IR Detectors

If you are passionate about printed technologies and materials science, have experience particularly in fabrication and characterization of optoelectronics, and want to contribute to groundbreaking research, you should join our team at Kiel University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Materials Science, Chair of Composite Materials. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated person who wants to work extensively in the exciting field of printed near-IR detectors.

The position is limited to an initial period of three years. If the requirements of the collective agreement are met, the position will be classified in pay group 13 TV-L. The regular weekly working time is 75% of a full-time position (currently 29.025 hours). Development of the characterization setup and cooperation in teaching (extent: 3 SWS, including seminars, exercises, and internships) is an integral part of this employment.

We are looking for a committed personality who enjoys working independently, is enthusiastic about scientific questions and works on them precisely. You should have completed an above-average master program and have good knowledge in the border area between materials science, physics and chemistry and should have the following qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science or a related discipline
  • Proficiency in the synthesis and characterization of quantum dots and nanostructures.
  • Experience in thin film solution processing techniques and optoelectronics fabrication (photodetectors/ sensors experience would be an asset).
  • Familiarity with detectors.
  • Theoretical and simulation skills (an advantage).
  • Fluent in English (level C1 or better) with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

A high degree of initiative and teamwork as well as the willingness to cooperate and collaborate in teaching are required.

Specific Requirements

Research: In this role, you will contribute to a groundbreaking project focused on the development of printed Near-IR detectors/sensors based on lead-free quantum dots and solution processing methods. These detectors/sensors will target critical applications in advancing medical diagnostics and environmental monitoring, offering heightened precision and sustainability.

 

Teaching: Supervision of tutorials and/or internships as part of the bachelor's and master's degree program in materials science.
