Offer Description
Are you passionate about delving into the intricate mechanisms behind cancer progression? If the answer is yes, join us at the Institute of Pathophysiology, Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria, where two fully funded PhD positions await you in the Baschieri research group.
Research Topics:
1 - Topography of the Tumor Microenvironment: to escape from solid tumors and form metastases, cells have to navigate into an intricate mesh of collagen fibers. Aim of your PhD will be to understand what strategy do successful metastatic cells use to move in this complex environment.
2 - Energy-efficient strategies for cell movement: cell migration requires a lot of energy. We think that metastatic cancer cells can develop strategies to move more efficiently. Objective of your PhD will be to investigate how cells adapt their energy production for efficient migration.
Your profile:
- Master’s degree in biology, life sciences, or a related field.
- Interested in fundamental research.
- Team player.
- Fluent in English (it is our working language).
- Previous experience with live cell imaging, and/or mechanobiology would be a plus.
What you will receive:
- Become part of an enthusiastic and diverse international team.
- Work in a state-of-the-art laboratory facility located in Innsbruck, the “capital of the Alps”.
- Engage with the global scientific community through conferences and networking opportunities.
- Fully funded position available immediately (here you can see your gross salary: FWF).
Besides work, the Medical University Innsbruck offers several benefits, including free German classes and discounts for sport and cultural activities. Indeed, Innsbruck offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures such as skiing, hiking, and biking, while also fostering a cultural atmosphere thanks to the presence of two major universities.
