The Institute for Medieval Research (IMAFO) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution, is offering a

 

PhD Student Position (f/m/x)

(part-time, 30h/per week)

 

The Department of Text Edition and Source Studies/MIR of the Institute for Medieval Research (IMAFO) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) is looking for a PhD Student Position to start at the earliest possible date, but no later than September 01st 2024 in the field of History of the Middle Ages and Auxiliary Historical Sciences with a focus on the Late Medieval Holy Roman Empire, Imperial Charters and Editing of Medieval Sources for the Austrian Science Fund FWF-funded international project „Sigismund’s Imperial Rule Reconsidered“.

 

The position is temporary until the end of the project period (31st March 2027).

 

Your tasks:

  • Archival research in the Bavarian State Archive and other archives in Germany and Central Europe
  • Editing of abstracts (regesta) of the charters of Emperor Sigismund from the Bavarian State Archive within the framework of the inter-academic long-term project Regesta Imperii (RI)
  • Preparation of a conference paper on Sigismund’s Imperial Rule or the Holy Roman Empire in his time

 

Your profile:

  • Completed master studies in History or Auxiliary Sciences of History
  • Command of Medieval Latin and German
  • Expertise in the history of the Holy Roman Empire in the Late Middle Ages, especially in the Luxembourg period
  • Expertise in auxiliary sciences of history (especially paleography, diplomatics, sigillography, chronology)
  • Fluent communication in German and English, both written and spoken
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Readiness to undertake extended research trips to Munich and other locations in Germany and Central Europe

 

We offer an exciting job and integration into an interdisciplinary project team. The salary is based on the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Scienes (OeAW). The gross annual salary (part-time, 30h/week) is € 37,773.33.
