Offer Description

Researcher for the NSCR research group 'Offenders'. Who commits crime, when, and why?'

Are you the enthusiastic researcher we are looking for to strengthen our research group? Have you obtained a PhD in a relevant (social or behavioral scientific) discipline, gained some research experience after your PhD, and demonstrated affinity with research on criminal, antisocial, or deviant behavior across the life course (or across generations)? Then we are looking for you!

The Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR) is looking for a  researcher for the research group 'Offenders. Who commits crime, when, and why?'. The NSCR has a longstanding tradition of conducting life course research on crime. In this research group, we continue that tradition while also focusing on innovation in research topics and methods. We conduct thorough quantitative and qualitative research on socially relevant topics and collaborate with other research groups within the NSCR, as well as with scholars both domestically and internationally. We also collaborate with societal partners. You can learn more about this research group here.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a researcher with a relevant academic background, who can independently work on a research line within our research group in the coming years. We explicitly seek someone who also aims to search for connections with topics being researched in other research groups, who is keen on collaborating with others, is able to publish research in international scientific journals, and is willing to write appropriate grant proposals to attempt to secure funding for this research. Additionally, we seek someone who enjoys mentoring young researchers.

  • Has demonstrated affinity with the topics central to this research group;
  • Has sufficient experience to conduct independent research, publish, and communicate about the research;
  • Has their own ideas for an (innovative) research line within the existing program and can independently apply for funding for this;
  • Is proficient in (academic) English;
  • Is a pleasant colleague who enjoys collaboration and can provide guidance to younger researchers.
