Offer Description

The Institute of Mathematics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IM CAS) is seeking two researchers for the project “Dissipative systems in fluid dynamics” coordinated by Prof. Eduard Feireisl and funded by the Czech Science Foundation. Applications are invited from candidates who have a strong background in the mathematical theory of fluid dynamics. Excellent knowledge of PDEs and functional analysis, including the framework of Sobolev spaces and weak solutions, is required. No teaching is involved.

Skills/Qualifications

Applications are invited from candidates who have completed their PhD within the last 5 years (or will have completed it before the time of hiring), and who have a strong background in the mathematical theory of fluid dynamics. Excellent knowledge of PDEs and functional analysis, including the framework of Sobolev spaces and weak solutions, is required. Both postdoctoral fellows will concentrate on the concept of generalized solutions. One fellow will focus on the applications of the abstract theory for designing efficient numerical schemes, the second one will work on the stability of solutions and their asymptotic behaviour under general, possibly stochastic perturbations.

Benefits

We offer flexible working hours for scientists. We support female researchers with children by offering possibility of home office contracts and part-time job. The Academy offers the kindergarden for employees' children from 1 to 5 years old. Affordable accommodation is available in the building of the Institute for the first 3-6 months.

Eligibility criteria

Applications are invited from candidates who have completed their PhD within the last 5 years (or will have completed it before the time of hiring), and who have a strong background in the mathematical theory of fluid dynamics.

Selection process

Equal opportunities are an integral part of the IM CAS personnel policy. The IM CAS fosters the compatibility of work and family and encourages applications from qualified female researchers. Disabled applicants will be given preference in case of equal qualifications.

Only complete applications (including the letters of reference) received by April 30, 2024, will be considered. Online interviews with shortlisted applicants will be scheduled from May 9 to 10, 2024. All applicants will be notified by May 24, 2024.
