Offer Description
We are seeking motivated student researchers to conduct state-of-the-art research in recently established Laboratory for Advanced Materials at Comenius University (CU) in Bratislava, Slovakia, with following PhD dissertation theme:
Novel Synthetic Approaches to Heteroatom Doped Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH). The focus of this project is the development of synthetic methods for preparation of a new class of heteroatom doped PAHs with practical potential for use in electronics and optoelectronics. Characterization of the relationship between the electronic structure and properties such as HOMO–LUMO gaps, absorption and emission properties, redox potentials. The work will be performed at LAM in collaboration with department of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University.

Additional Information
Where will you work? The research will be performed at newly established Laboratory for Advanced Materials (LAM), located in the recently constructed CU Science Park (https://cusp.uniba.sk). As a PhD student you will be a member of a multidisciplinary research team of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and research staff, led by an internationally recognized researcher, ERA Chair, Dr. Milan Sykora. You will be able to learn about design and preparation of new materials, their chemical, structural and electronic characterization using variety of advanced characterization methods and development of applications in energy conversion and storage, optoelectronics, electronics or biotechnology. Your participation in this research will include opportunities to collaborate with other research teams from top Slovak research institutions as well as our collaborators from EU and USA. As part of your studies you will have an opportunity to present your research results at international conferences as well as participate in exchange research visits with our international collaborators.
Compensation. You will be paid a monthly stipend in the amount of 1000-1200 EUR net, depending on your performance and experience, for period of 4 years. Thanks to a relatively low cost of living in Slovakia and availability of student housing, the stipend offers a financially comfortable student experience. After completion of your PhD you may continue your research at the LAM as a postdoctoral researcher, with the possibility to apply for prestigious fellowships (e.g., Marie-Curie Fellowship, Alexander von Humboldt fellowship), for international scientific stays at institutions and/or apply for positions requiring a PhD, such as senior researcher in chemical and materials science companies, an assistant professor position at one of the universities in Slovakia or abroad, etc.
If you are interested in the position, please contact Dr. Pavol Tisovsky via e-mail (pavol.tisovsky@uniba.sk). In the e-mail please state why would you like to work at LAM (in the context of your prior position/experience and your future plans) and attach a CV (one-page max.). Recommendation letter from your mentor of mentors is a plus. You can find more information at: https://fns.uniba.sk/en/lam
