Postdoctoral Research Associate (temporary replacement) / Reference Code 71

The Department of Food Science and Technology, Institute of Food Science is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (temporary replacement).

Extent of employment:         40 hours per week

Duration of employment:     as of now, initially limited until the end of maternity leave

                                            (with an option to extend to the duration of maternity leave)

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year): B1 lit. b, € 4.752,30

Responsibilities:

• Research in the field of food microbiology and food hygiene with a focus on food quality and food safety
• Teaching and supervision or co-supervision of students within the scope of legal possibilities
• Transfer of knowledge and promotion of junior researchers in line with the social responsibility of the University of Natural Resources and Life Science Vienna
• Independent planning and conduct of scientific projects
• Assumption of administrativs tasks within the framework of university self-administration
• Expansion of the microbiological core competencies (food quality, food safety, food spoilage, safety of beneficial microbes) within the institute and in cooperation with the BOKU Core Facility Food & Bio Processing and the other BOKU Core Facilities
• Participation on the current research areas of the department as well as willingness to cooperate with internal and external partners to strengthen the BOKU competence field "Agricultural Production and Food" and the current cross-cutting research topic "Securing Nutrition and Health"
• Teaching in the field of food microbiology and hygiene in German and Englisch (laboratory courses, seminars, lectures)
• Collaboration and interdisciplinary dialogue with internal and external research groups
• The research activities of the holder of the position should also show a clear reference to microbial food quality assurance, food safety and food hygiene

Required skills and qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in the professional context of food microbiology and -hygiene and food safety and quality
• Excellent spoken and written skills of German and English
• Research experience in the field of food microbiology and hygiene with a focus on food safety and quality
• Laboratory experience with microbiological and molecular biology methods
• Teamwork and communication skills
• Initiative and responsible working style
• Experience with university teaching

Desired skills and qualifications:

• Experience in carrying out research projects
• Experience in dealing with food spoilage agents
• High level of social competence, reliability and independence
