Starting at the earliest possible date the Department Computational Social Science (CSS)Team Designed Digital Data located in Cologne, is looking for a

 

Senior Researcher (Postdoc)

in Social Data Science

(Salary group 13 TV-L, working time up to 100 %, initially for 4 years with possible tenure)

 

The interdisciplinary and internationally constituted department Computational Social Science (CSS) is dedicated to the study of sociocultural phenomena and digital society. For this purpose, we are using novel approaches to data collection (e.g., web scraping, web tracking, smartphone apps) as well as different types of analysis methods (e.g., machine learning, network analysis, text and data mining), and standards (reproducible analysis methods).

 

The team Designed Digital Data opens up digital behavioral data by developing open-source research software for smartphone-based data collections and web tracking. The team also conducts data collections for the social science community.

 

Your tasks will be:

  • Establishing and operating services and data products for the social sciences, in particular in the area of (designed) digital behavioral data from research tools such as web tracking or mobile research software
  • Building pipelines for collecting, processing, annotating, and analyzing digital behavioral data such as web tracking or mobile sensor data
  • Research in the field of digital behavioral data and online behavior, publication and presentation of research results
  • Monitoring and adopting trends in research software development for the social sciences

Your profile:

  • Completed doctoral degree in computer science, data science or social sciences
  • Internationally visible publications in the fields of digital behavioral data, computational social science and similar disciplines and interest in social science research questions
  • Expertise on building pipelines for collecting, processing, annotating and analyzing digital behavioral data, knowledge of relational or non-relational databases
  • Very good English skills (spoken and written)
  • Competences in automated content analysis, mobile designs, open science or (intensive-) longitudinal data analysis are a plus
