Offer Description

The fellowship focuses on women’s history in transnational perspective with a specific focus on archival collections in India. The fellowship will be developed within the framework of the WO-NAM project, funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant and led by PI Prof. Chiara Bonfiglioli. WO-NAM addresses the history of women’s participation in the Non-Aligned Movement during the Cold War era, studying the roles of female leaders, women’s movements and women’s organizations. Bringing together women’s and gender history, global history, and intellectual history, WO-NAM will draw on rich and diverse archival collections on women’s activism in its focus on the case studies of Yugoslavia, Egypt, Tunisia, India, and Cuba, as well as on video-interviews with some of the protagonists of these events. The project also includes a survey of existing archival collections in the United States, related to the history of women’s internationalism during the Cold War. The fellow will work closely with the PI, Prof. Chiara Bonfiglioli, primarily to conduct archival research in India, notably exploring the Avabai Women’s Archive at SNDT Women's University in Mumbai, dedicated to Avabai Wadia’s collections, to reconstruct transnational connections between activists during the Cold War. The fellow will also contribute to the project website, database and social media, and to the overall development of the project.
