Offer Description

Computational Biology Research Group is looking for applicants to fill doctoral student positions in computer science on topics focused on models and algorithms for processing large-scale genomic data, computational analysis of bacterial plasmids, and other similar topics in bioinformatics.

Successful candidates will be working in research group of Dr. Brona Brejova and Dr. Tomas Vinar. The applicants must contact us before April 15, 2024 with CV and motivation statement in order to arrange for a virtual meeting to complete a joint short research statement that is required as a part of the admission application. The deadline for admission applications is April 30, 2024.

The position is for the period of 4 years starting on September 1, 2024, with a monthly fellowship of 1000-1200 EUR (equivalent to approx. 1550-1850 EUR gross salary since the fellowship is not subject to taxes). Funding for research travel and other similar costs is available through participation in research grants secured by principal investigators. The applicants from outside of EU will be required to secure proper visa in a timely fashion, no support beyond providing required documentation is available to assist with the process.

The candidates must have finished (or expect to finish by August 2024) master's degree in computer science, bioinformatics or related areas. In addition to this, we expect:

  • knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and probability
  • proficiency in programming (Python preferred)
  • experience with machine learning is welcome
  • fluency in English language
