Offer Description
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for conducting a field investigation in connection with an epidemiological study carried out by Florence Ménégaux's team on the links between exposure to chlordecone and prostate cancer in Martinique. The postdoctoral fellow will take over from an initial recruitment (18-month contract ending April 30, 2024), a transition will therefore be ensured in conjunction with the project team.
The postdoctoral fellow will carry out interviews with patients participating in the study, as well as with associations, health professionals and institutions working on the environmental causes of prostate cancer, in a context of recognition recent history of this cancer as an occupational disease. If the time available for the field investigation allows it, a complementary investigation will be continued on the mobilizations of pesticide victims (investigation already opened by Marie Mathieu, current postdoctoral student on the project). This will involve documenting the consideration of links (or the absence of a link) between environmental exposure and cancer in patients, and the politicization of prostate cancer as an environmental health disease (mobilization and dedicated institutional mechanisms ). The postdoctoral fellow will have to participate in moments of collective work dedicated to the project, write summary notes on the progress of the investigation and propose analyzes of the data collected, contribute to the writing of progress reports and scientific articles, in French or English.
The postdoctoral fellow will work in the IRISSO laboratory based at Paris Dauhpine-PSL University. However, the mission will take place mainly in Martinique (long or short missions are to be expected). The postdoctoral student will be able to benefit from a work space in the offices of a local partner (Arebio) in Fort-de-France where the other postdoctoral student (Rubis Le Coq) currently working on the same project is based.
