Offer Description
The post-doctoral fellow will be part of the Gravitational Waves (GW) team within the Astroparticles, Astrophysics and Cosmology (A2C) division of the IJCLab laboratory. He/she will work on the development and optimization of multi-messenger tracking methods in connection with gravitational wave or neutrino detectors, as well as electromagnetic observatories such as GRANDMA, CTA, SVOM, LSST, ...
The gravitational wave detectors begin the second half of the 18-month O4 data collection, and will then prepare for the O5 data collection starting in 2027. At the same time, the IceCube and KM3NET neutrino detectors will continue to collect data. In the electromagnetic spectrum, the CTA observatory will continue its development over the next few years, the SVOM satellite will be launched in June 2024, and the LSST telescope will start collecting scientific data in the first half of 2025.
The huge diversity of observatories available in the next few years means that we need to rethink our strategies for monitoring multi-messenger astrophysical sources, a subject in which the Gravitational Waves group at IJCLab is heavily involved, as with the GRANDMA network, the SVOM mission and the development of scientific filters within the Fink alert system. The person recruited will participate in this effort and in the validation of the various possibilities, as well as in the scientific exploitation of the results obtained within these different consortia.
The Laboratoire de Physique des 2 Infinis Irène Joliot-Curie is a physics laboratory studying the two infinities under the auspices of the CNRS, the University of Paris-Saclay and the University of Paris, created in 2020.
The laboratory's research themes are nuclear physics, high-energy physics, astroparticles and cosmology, theoretical physics, particle gas pedals and detectors, as well as technical research and development and associated applications for energy, health and the environment.
The facility boasts extensive technical capabilities (around 280 engineers and technicians) in all the major fields required to design, develop and implement the experimental devices needed for its scientific activity: mechanics, electronics, computing, instrumentation, acceleration techniques and biology. These technical strengths represent a major asset for the design, development and use of the necessary instruments (gas pedals and detectors). The presence of research infrastructures and technology platforms on the laboratory site is also a major asset. Finally, some 90 administrative and support staff work alongside the scientists and engineers.
IJCLAB bases its recruitment policy on the promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion. Essential values, they allow the professional development of agents, who are real actors in a collective success, but also the development of the laboratory itself.
