Offer Description

The Neuropharmacology research group at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences seeks applications for an open PhD position.

The Neuropharmacology group, led by Prof. Linda Simmler, investigates the mode of action of psychoactive substances pre-clinically. The research focus is on hallucinogenic compounds (psychedelics) that are under evaluation for clinical use in psychiatric disorders. We aim to understand their effects on neuronal circuits and synapses, and link to behavior and disease models.

The successful candidate will investigate antidepressant effects of psilocybin in mice, using behavioral testing and genetic interventions requiring stereotactic surgeries.

  • MSc in a relevant discipline (Drug Sciences, Pharmacy, Biology, Neurosciences, or related)
  • Experienced in laboratory work (experience with rodent behavior is a plus)
  • Excellent analytical, experimental and writing skills
  • Organized, proactive, collaborative and committed to timelines
  • Fully funded PhD candidate position, full time for 3–4 years
  • Participation in the PhD Program for Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Vibrant research environment at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and within the Basel Neuroscience community; in Basel, a global hub for pharmaceutical industry
