Offer Description

The candidate will work in the research group 'quantum circuits' at the physics laboratory of ENS de Lyon (physinfo.fr). He will have access to numerical tools, and nanofabrication and cryogenics equipment.

The doctoral project will focus on the development and construction of a near-field imaging tool for electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy based on quantum circuit technology. The objective of the project is to detect and characterize the spins present on the surface at a resolution of 100 nm, with a spectral resolution allowing their identification. The use of quantum circuit techniques, in particular low mode volume, high quality factor superconducting resonators and quantum-limited amplifiers, will provide the resolution necessary to create the imaging probe [1-2]. In particular, the candidate will work to build a three-dimensional scanning near-field probe to extend these initial experiments to near-field detection. Successful implementation of these circuits will allow the candidate to perform novel characterizations on many condensed matter devices, including the contaminants that currently limit quantum circuits performances. The PhD will take place in the Quantum Circuits group at ENS Lyon, which is an expert in quantum circuit technologies for quantum sensing and quantum information processing.
