Offer Description

Develop and implement quantitative analyses of high school students' choices and trajectories in higher education, according to social origin. The project includes a work package devoted to analyzing large longitudinal databases (e.g. student panels) and administrative databases (Parcoursup, SISE, etc.), and a work package devoted to carrying out a questionnaire survey of high school students.

1) Carry out statistical analyses on longitudinal and administrative databases
- Merging, cleaning and coding
- Statistical modeling (multivariate, multilevel, sequence analyses, etc.)
2) Implement a questionnaire survey of high school students in the Lyon area
- Contribution to questionnaire development
- Contribution to data collection
- Analysis of results
3) Contribute to the scientific dissemination of results
- Presentation of results at national and international conferences
- Writing scientific articles in French and English

A general sociology laboratory, the Max Weber Centre (UMR 5283) brings together a large number of sociologists from the Lyon-Saint-Étienne area. It is institutionally attached to four supervisory bodies: CNRS, École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne and Université Lumière Lyon 2. The position will be more specifically attached to the "Dispositions, pouvoirs, cultures, socialisations" team, located at the ENS de Lyon.

Eligibility criteria

This position is open to holders of a PhD degree in sociology or economics, with an interest for educational inequalities and who have demonstrated strong quantitative data analysis skills.
Main skills :
- Very good command of quantitative data analysis methods (STATA or R software)
- Knowledge in sociology of education, with particular emphasis on inequalities
- Good interpersonal skills for exchanges with institutional partners
