Offer Description

[Background of the recruitment and description of the project]
* Background of the recruitment and description of the project
The group of Prof. Yoshiyuki Tagawa in the Department of Advanced Mechanical Systems Engineering at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (Japan) is seeking a qualified and motivated Assistant Professor(nontenured) for a project on a novel engineering technology for producing liquid microjets.

About the project
Liquid microjets are of great importance in various applications such as ink-jet printers. Developing new methods for generating highly viscous microjets or ultrahigh-speed microjets is therefore of fundamental and engineering interest. In this project, we will investigate/develop systems for generating such microjets employing an impulsive force, since sudden acceleration of liquids results in the ejection of microjets with enormous velocity. Our group has also used this approach to create highly viscous jets with viscosities up to 500 cSt, and explained their behavior by a physical model based on a pressure-impulse approach as well as supersonic microjets of lower-viscosity liquids with speeds up to 850 m/s. The goals of this project are to develop:
- High-speed microjets for needle free injection devices
- Highly viscous microjets for inkjet-type 3D printers
- Non-Newtonian microjets for printed electronics
- Sub-micro jets for cell printings
This research involves fundamental scientific research, mentoring graduate students, and collaborations with Japanese industrial partners.
