Offer Description
The project will examine the practices of preservation, consumption and exhibition of the material cultural heritage produced by the major conflicts of the 20th century that occurred in the borderlands currently divided between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. Specifically, the research fellow will focus his/her investigation on the Julian March region (Trieste and Istria). The project will consist of two parts: a study part, aimed at contextualising this case study in the broader international context of war studies, and a research part, aimed at mapping the cultural heritage in the borderlands, in order to analyse the different ways of promoting and enhancing the historical and memorial sites of the two World Wars and their respective post-war periods in the three states that currently administer this transnational region. The work carried out by the researcher will consequently constitute a contribution to the proposal of a model for the development of sustainable tourism related to cultural heritage in the transnational region under investigation.
