Offer Description

Orkestra – Basque Institute of Competitiveness is a centre for analysis and debate on territorial competitiveness. It was created in 2006 as part of Deusto Foundation at the University of Deusto. The Institute is the outcome of the convergence between various statregic, private and public strategies, aware that building competitive societies and companies is key to achieving future well-being.

 

We are seeking to recruit a pre-doctoral researcher to work on projects in Orkestra's energy and environment lab, in collaboration with some of our stakeholders:

The successful candidate will:

  • Join Orkestra's vibrant research community, which carries out internationally recognised research that contributes directly to improving the competitiveness and well-being of the Basque Country.
  • Have the opportunity to interact with Orkestra's stakeholders at project level.
  • Join an interdisciplinary team of Orkestra’s researchers to work on the projects in collaboration with people linked to Orkestra’ stakeholders in the development of research projects with an impact on society.
  • Be able to pursue a PhD simultaneously (possibly with an 'industrial’ doctorate award) aligned with the research projects they are working on.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Join the team of an Orkestra’s project on regulatory, economic and financial tools to boost sustainable transition.
  • Develop a doctoral thesis related to their areas of work, starting in September 2024 in a doctoral programme at the University of Deusto (or another university).
  • Participate in meetings and interaction processes with the stakeholders involved in the project.
  •  Draft and publish scientific papers and analysis reports on the different topics of the research area.

Specific Requirements

Profile required:

A bachelor's degree and an official master's degree in:  Economics, Business Management and Administration, Engineering, among other disciplines.  

 

Required competences:

  • A high capacity to understand and analyse theoretical frameworks with the aim of applying them to socioeconomic contexts.
  • A high ability to structure and draft complex ideas in documents.
  • Planning and analytical skills (particularly those related to economic or financial issues), problem solving, teamwork, and communication skills in both academic/scientific and non-academic fields (e.g. business, policy makers, etc.).
  • An ability to establish constructive relationships with the rest of the Institute's professionals, as well as with relevant local actors.
  • Languages: English (proficient), Spanish (proficient). Knowledge of Basque will also be an asset.
  • Specific training in (green) finance, energy, sustainability, climate change or public policy would be appreciated.
