Offer Description

The Estonian Maritime Academy of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech EMERA) invites applications to fill in the assistant professor position in the field of Nautical Sciences. The goal of the position is to lead research and development in the fields of technological developments in ship management and human-machine interaction (AI and crew activities), ship handling and operations risk analysis and emergency management (including decision support systems), ergonomics of ship bridges and ship operations.

Content of work

To lead high-level research and development activities in the field of integrated ship systems and autonomous and unmanned marine technology.

Research-based teaching in the higher education programme curricula in Ship Management, in the master programmes in Maritime and Maritime Digitalisation, and in the doctoral programme in the supervision of masters, doctoral and post-doctoral students, according to the subject area. In addition to teaching, the aim is to ensure the continuity of know-how related to the discipline at TalTech and in Estonia more broadly. To increase the quality of research and development activities in the field and interdisciplinarity with other research areas and institutions.

The assistant professor position is fixed term up to eight years.

Specific Requirements
  • Doctoral degree or equivalent qualification.
  • A doctoral thesis defended within the last ten years (in case of using parental leave, maternity leave or paternity leave or in compulsory military service or alternative service after having obtained a doctoral degree, the time limit shall be extended by the period of the leave or service).
  • Postdoctoral studies and/or professional experience in another organisation outside Tallinn University of Technology, preferably in an international research environment, is a prerequisite for the post.
  • The level of scientific publications and citation should be at a comparable level with assistant professors in the same field as in reference universities.
  • Has published scientific publications in the amount of two doctoral theses and referencing is characterised by the h-index of technical sciences, h-index ≥ 6.
  • Basic Estonian, advanced English.
