Offer Description
This grant will be financed by SMURF project funded by the European Comission (Horizon Europe n. 101135516).
This grant is intended for a student pursuing an masters degree in environmental science or natural resources. The grant will have a duration of 6 months, starting on
01/05/2024, with the possibility of renewal up to 9 months. The tender is open in the period between 22/03/2024 and 05/04/2024.
The main tasks to be developed by the fellow consist of:
1) Collaboration in defining carbon credits with biodiversity criteria;
2) Collaboration in the application of evaluation methods in forest stands;
3) Collaborating in the development of carbon credit traceability systems;
4) Preparing technical and scientific reports.
The main grant goal is to collaboration in the development of SMURF project tasks related to the definition and application of methodologies for evaluating biodiversity and carbon credits.

The amount of the grant corresponds to 601,12€, according to the table of values of the grants awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country. The fellow will also benefit from a personal accident insurance, and if not included in any social security protocol, may adhere to the Portuguese Social Security through the Seguro Social Voluntário (Voluntary Social Security), in the terms present in the Portuguese Código dos Regimes Contributivos do Sistema Previdencial de Segurança Social. The monthly salary will be payed monthly by bank transfer.

Additional Information

The selection methods to be used will be as follows:
a) Weighted average of the following factors: previous experience in methods of assessment of biodiversity and carbon credits (50%);
b) Average of grades of courses taken so far (30%);
c) Motivation (20%).
The jury will be composed by Doctor João Carlos Azevedo (President of the Jury), Doctor Manuel Feliciano and Doctor Artur Gonçalves.
The communications and the final results of the evaluation will be disclosed by email notification to the candidates.
If the decision to be taken is unfavourable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express their opinion, if desired, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Code of the Administrative Procedure.
Documents proving the ownership of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma, may be dispensed with during the application stage, being replaced by a declaration of honor by the candidate, although substantiation of this condition is mandatory during the grant contracting stage.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25th. The presentation of the recognition is mandatory for the signing of the contract.
