Job description

A permanent researcher position is available at the Department of Industrial Biotechnology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. As a researcher, you will be responsible for designing and operating biobased resource recovery processes from waste streams and industrial residues by developing novel microbial consortia. This researcher will join research activities such as the production of value-added products from waste streams in both lab and pilot-scale reactors and supervising MSc and PhD students as a part of the team of Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Cetecioglu Gurol. In addition to these research activities, this person will be responsible for applications to national and international research funding (FORMAS, Vinnova, VR, Horizon Europe, etc). There could be some teaching activities.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in chemical engineering or environmental biotechnology. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made. 
  • A strong academic track-record, demonstrated by high-quality publications.
  • Good communication skills and command of written and spoken English as it is currently used.
  • Complex problem-solving skills and critical thinking
  • Ability to work interdisciplinary
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Collaborative abilities.
  • Independence.
  • Knowledge in anaerobic mixed microbial processes and wastewater treatment
  • Experience in bioreactor operation in both lab and pilot scales
  • Knowledge in anaerobic mixed microbial communities and their metabolic pathways
  • Experience in molecular microbial tools
  • Experience in separation and purification techniques
  • Experience in teaching and supervision in higher education
  • A strong academic track record, demonstrated by high-quality publications
  • Good communication skills and masters English in speech and writing as the language is frequently used at the department

  • Collaborative national and international experience
  • Teaching ability.
  • The ability to work towards research results being utilised in practice.
  • The ability to inform about research and development work
  • Experience of developing and leading activities and staff.
  • Knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality 
  • Awareness about sustainability concepts.
