Offer Description
The Department of Biotechnology, Institute of Computational Biology is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate )project employment).
Extent of employment: 30 hours per week
Duration of employment: 1st of July 2024, limited to 31st of May 2027
Workplace: 1190 Vienna, Muthgasse 18
Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year): B1, € 2.684,10
Responsibilities
- Computational prediction and characterisation of protein-protein interaction interfaces using workstations and high performance compute clusters
- Developing and application of machine learning methods
- Maintaining code and documentation in open source repositories
- Writing scientific publications and a cumulative PhD theses (PhD thesis is desired)
- Presenting results in seminars and scientific meetings
- Consultation of and interaction with computational and life science experts
- Conducting outreach activities
Required skills and qualifications
- Diploma degree in Biotechnology or other equivalent university degree
- Good command of written and spoken English
- Experience with applying biostatistics or machine learning for biological data analysis (e.g. demonstrated by a respective MSc theses)
- Excellent command of R (e.g. applying bioconductor libraries) or Python (numpy, pandas, scikit learn)
- Completed lectures with a machine learning and biostatistics focus
- Domain knowledge in molecular biology
- Experience with information retrieval using biological repositories
- Practical experience in life science research (e.g. student practica or student job)
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Good command of German
- Scientific curiosity
- Self driven, hands on attitude and a willingness to accept advise
- Good team player
