Offer Description
Rapidly rising levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere have prompted the development of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies. In this context, the conversion of CO2 into chemical fuels makes it possible to close the carbon cycle. Since multi-carbon (C2+) products have a higher market value and are more energy-intensive, intensive efforts have been devoted to improving reaction selectivity for the production of C2 and C2+ molecules. Modest energy efficiency and selectivity towards the production of multi-carbon molecules at industrially relevant current densities, however, limit the development of CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) technology.
Our team has recently developed an efficiency strategy to control the selectivity of CO2RR. This strategy has been successfully tested in a continuous-flow electrolyzer.
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled candidate to join our team and contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of industrial CO2 electrolysis, with a particular focus on C2+ oxygenate production. The successful candidate will be involved in the design, development and optimization of advanced electrochemical systems for the sustainable synthesis of ethylene from carbon dioxide.
• Design advanced electrocatalytic particles for the electroreduction of CO2 to ethylene.
• Conduct detailed electrochemical characterization and performance analysis.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrochemical systems into an industrial setting.
• Optimize process parameters for enhanced ethylene production efficiency.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field and contribute to scientific publications.
Research will be carried out at the Institut Européen des Membranes (IEM, CNRS UMR5635, UM, ENSCM) at the University of Montpellier. Our group is equipped with state-of-the-art dedicated facilities, including ex-situ and in-situ characterization techniques to carry out the projects. The IEM is a world-leading institute in membrane science, with excellent technical support and in-house facilities for membrane fabrication and characterization. The institute is affiliated to the University of Montpellier and is a member of the Pôle Chimie Balard, the Institut Carnot Chimie Balard and the Labex CheMiSyst.
