Offer Description

Observing biomolecules in their natural, dynamic states is a complex challenge due to their intricate structures and fluctuations. While many techniques provide static snapshots of groups of molecules in non-native conditions, we aim to observe and understand molecules in real-time within biomimetic environments.

Centrale Lille/IEMN is calling for PhD applicants for a project that improves the resolution of biosensing technologies using nanostructured functional materials. This work will deepen our insight into biomolecular systems, with potential benefits for diagnostics, biological and pharmaceutical research.

The project’s challenge lies in engineering the nanostructured biointerfaces for this innovative application. The tasks comprise: preparing ultra-thin films, fine-tuning our tools at the nanoscale, understanding new nanomaterials’ functions (and how they relate to their structures), and creating interfaces with biological molecules. As a PhD student, you will work on a range of these tasks and gain knowledge in functional nanomaterials, biomolecular engineering, and advanced microscopy techniques. This three-year research project offers mentorship from skilled scientists and engineers, as well as opportunities for international experience and career development.

We seek candidates with a master’s degree in Micro-nanotechnology, Chemistry, Materials Engineering, or a related field, interested in the intersection of nanostructured materials and biology with method development. Curiosity, a readiness to learn, and programming skills are desirable.

To join our interdisciplinary team, please send a 1–2-page CV to cmanzana@centralelille.fr
