Offer Description
The field of nanomedicine is receiving increasing attention and has enormous potential for a plethora of pathological conditions, including cancer. One of the main advantages of nanomaterials is the ability to combine multiple modalities in one platform, allowing the nanomaterials to be used simultaneously for diagnostic and therapeutic applications and to use multiple therapeutic options simultaneously. Among these nanoparticles are iron oxide magnetic nanoflowers whose structure-property-function relationship is investigated in PHENIX lab showing exciting functions in heat generation (magnetic hyperthermia, photothermia) as well as in MRI and MPI imaging. However, the main bottlenecks hindering the full use of nanomaterials for biomedical purposes is the need for a higher level of selectivity in terms of targeted delivery of the nanomaterials to the target cells, along with the development of new, alternative therapeutic options. In this postdoc and in the frame of a collaboration between Inorganic Colloids group in PHENIX (Sorbonne University, France) and NanoHealth and Optical Imaging Group (KU Leuven, Belgium) we propose to investigate these topics which are central in a multidisciplinary way by making extensive use of non-invasive imaging (optical imaging and magnetic particle imaging) to investigate the biodistribution and functionality of the nanoformulations.

Candidate profile: The applicant holds a PhD in the fields of biology, medical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, bioengineering, or similar and has: i) Experience in handling and testing mice and performing related biochemical tests, ii) Experience working with in vivo optical imaging. iii) Experience with histology and all related skills, iii) Experience with fluorescence microscopy is desirable but not a must, iii) Experience with MPI is desirable but not a must, iv) Ideally, the applicant has a Felasa B animal handling certificate. Applicant must be able to communicate well in English.
Main responsibilities: i) Applicant must have sound knowledge and experience in performing cell culture techniques and basic in vitro assays, ii) Must be able to perform non-invasive imaging tasks, example; optical imaging, FLECT-CT and MPI. The latter two are desirable but not a must, iii) The applicant will work with different mouse tumor models. This work includes intravenous and subcutaneous injections, dissection of the mice, and processing of different organs.
