Offer Description
IMDEA Energy participates in the European project eNargiZinc and in the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks, offering a PhD Researcher position to work in the Synthesis of versatile redox-active organic polymers for their application in post-lithium electrochemical energy storage devices.
Objectives: to develop novel redox-active polymers (RAPs) and their hybrids, including conjugated porous polymers with a large surface area and redox-active groups; to explore the preparation of electrode hybrids by promoting in-situ polymerisation of RAPs in presence of nanocarbons or conducting polymers; to improve the long-term cyclability, the capacity and the transport properties of the electrodes.
Expected results: to optimise the molar mass, morphology and size of RAPs and their hybrids as well as other macromolecular properties (e.g., conductivity and flexibility); to obtain hybrid polymer materials with two distinct functionalities: a functionality able to undergo fast and reversible redox reactions and a conducting functionality to ensure efficient charge collection; to implement tailor-made RAPs into the SIB and ZIB prototypes; to combine RAPs with the best-performing bifunctional ORR/OER catalysts towards innovative polymer-air batteries.

Additional Information
The guaranteed funding will be for 36 months and will include: (1) a monthly living allowance of 3,400 EUR/month (this amount will be adjusted through the application of a country correction coefficient for the country in which the researcher is recruited; these coefficients are indicated in Table 2 of the MSCA Work Programme); (2) a monthly mobility allowance of 600 EUR/month; and (3) a monthly family allowance, if applicable and depending on the family situation, of 660 EUR/month. Allowances are gross amounts, which means that all compulsory social security contributions (both employer and employee ones), direct taxes, and any other compulsory deductions under national legislation are deducted from these gross amounts.
There are strict eligibility requirements. The candidates must:
- Comply with the mobility rule. They must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date.
- Comply with the Doctoral Candidate definition: at the time of recruitment by the hosting institution candidates must not have been awarded a doctoral degree (PhD degree).
- Be in position of enrolling in a doctoral programme at the country and meet the specific eligibility requirements at the hosting institution, if applicable.
The selection procedure will be open, transparent, merit-based and in line with the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. All the network institutions are equal opportunity employers and seek a workforce diverse in age, culture, nationality and gender. None of them will apply restrictions on gender, age, ethnic groups, national or social origin, religion or belief, sexual orientation, language, disability, political opinion, and social or economic conditions.
The selection procedure will consist of the following steps:
- Evaluation: each eligible application will be evaluated independently by the Selection Committee (at the recruitment institution and chaired by the respective supervisor), according to the DC position options expressed by the applicants. The evaluation will be based on the following criteria:
- MSc and BSc programs taught and marks received
- Mobility experience (academic and/or professional)
- Research experience in topics related to the position and/or other disciplines
- Research achievements in the form of publications, inventions or patents
- Professional experience, including, but not limited to, experience on the following activities: teaching, knowledge transfer, research management, and science dissemination/communication
- English proficiency and other languages spoken
- Motivation
- Reference letters
- Online interviews: shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the respective Selection Committee. Two or three finalist candidates will be selected for each DC position.
- Face-to-face interviews: finalist candidates will be interviewed in person by the relevant supervisors during the course of the eNargiZinc Recruitment Day (to be held at Madrid in June). Candidates who will be unable to attend the event will have the opportunity to participate online.
- Evaluation report: shortlisted candidates will be informed after the selection process about the strengths and weaknesses of their applications.
