Do you have multidisciplinary expertise, particularly in molecular and behavioral aspects, including knowledge of brain circuits and animal models of anxiety? In that case, we want you to join Estelle Barbier’s group at the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN) at Linköping University https://liu.se/en/research/csan/labs/the-barbier-lab
Our lab offers all commodities for state-of -the-art molecular biology and behavioral research. We offer an international, young research environment with regular seminars and invited guest speakers. The candidate will work closely with other lab members at CSAN.
Your tasks
The successful candidate will lead a project where we investigate the neural mechanisms underlying fear responses acquired through observation, known as vicarious or observational fear. You will be in charge of
- Performing behavioral testing
- Design and performance of studies to assess the functional role of candidate brain circuits in observational fear (optogenetic, viral vector, and chemogenetic DREADD-based approaches)
- Performing molecular and biochemical techniques and analyses
- Transcriptomic analysis

- PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, or related field
- Excellent skills in basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques, including immunoblotting, (q)PCR, (co-)immunoprecipitation, microscopy and epigenetics
- Very good written and spoken English language skills
- Working experience with tissue processing and handling
- Excellent skills in rat behaviors testing (fear conditioning)
- Independent thinking and proactiveness
Additional skills:
- Working experience with high-throughput assays such as RNA sequencing is a bonus
- An additional asset would be proficiency in bioinformatics skills (Deeplabcut, sequencing analysis)
- Ability to work in a team
For being eligible you need to be non-Swedish citizen with a PhD awarded at a university outside Sweden. Your doctoral degree should have been awarded in the last three years, exceptions can be made for fellows who have special circumstances such as parental leave, sickness or similar.

Additional Information
This training and development postdoctoral fellow position is initially for a 2-year timeframe. During the initial two years the candidate will be given a tax-free scholarship of 25.000 SEK monthly (appx $2.400) and will be supported by 30 days annual leave entitlement.
