Offer Description

Iron is essential for all animals, including humans. However, iron levels require tight regulation because they can enhance the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can destroy any biological molecule, be it a nucleic acid, protein, or lipid. Indeed, the misregulation of iron can lead to a variety of disease conditions. Our lab aims to decipher how the iron level is controlled at multiple levels, from the molecular to the organismal. In particular, and because of the tight connection between iron and ROS, we are eager to understand how iron homeostasis is affected by oxygen. We explore this fascinating question using both the nematode C. elegans and human cell culture.

We are seeking creative, curious, and dedicated PhD students and postdocs to join our research team to explore this question. If you're interested and eager to learn more, please send your resume to Prof. Einav Gross at einavg@ekmd.huji.ac.il and become part of a team at the forefront of biological and medical sciences.

We offer full scholarships to suitable PhD and postdoc candidates. While experience in C. elegans and tissue culture is beneficial, it is not required. However, experience in basic molecular biology (cloning, PCR) is essential.

Candidates will be considered on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.
