Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg's aim in offering the junior professorship with tenure track is to enable young academics with excellent prospects to become independent at an early stage of their career and to offer them long-term career prospects. The junior professorship with tenure track is aimed at academics in the early career phase.

The following position is available at the Faculty of Philosophy II, Institute of Sports Science at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, starting on October 1, 2024:

W1-professorship with a tenure track to W2 in "Sports Science with a Focus on Movement Science."

We are looking for a dedicated and team-oriented individual with an outstanding academic background and excellent publications who can represent the field of sports science with a focus on movement or movement and cognition in both research and teaching. The candidate should demonstrate compatibility with at least one of the university's profile areas: "Transformation" and "Knowledge Cultures and Education." The professorship is organizationally assigned to the field of biomechanics.

Expectations include:

  • Increasing national and international visibility of the Institute of Sports Science and Martin Luther University
  • Engaging in activities and gaining experience in sports science research, securing funding, publishing, and presenting research
  • Involvement in teaching, especially in the following programs:
    • Teacher training in the subject of sports for high schools, secondary schools, and elementary schools
    • Bachelor's program in Sports Science with 120/90/60 credit points
    • Master's program in Sports and Nutrition
    • Master's program in Applied Sports Psychology
  • Excellent language skills in German and English
  • Willingness to take on responsibilities in academic self-administration.

The tasks are derived from §34 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt.

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of being appointed according to Section 40 of the Saxony-Anhalt State Law of Universities. In particular, the prerequisites for employment are a completed university degree, pedagogical ability and a particular aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate. As a rule, the time period between the final doctoral degree examination and the application for this junior professorship should not exceed six years.

Junior professorships are filled on the basis of a temporary civil service contract, initially for a period of three years. The position shall be renewed for a further three years conditional upon a positive mid-term evaluation. Upon a positive tenure evaluation, and without a new vacancy announcement, there is a transition to a permanent W2 professorship. If the general legal requirements are met, this transition includes appointment through a lifelong civil servant relationship, or alternatively, transfer to an indefinite private-law employment relationship.
