Research positions on “ENgIneerinG MAterial properties with advanced laser direct writing — ENIGMA”
We are excited to invite applications for postdoctoral research positions as follows:
Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow (level 4/5)
Salary Range: £34,980-£51,283
The positions will be based in the Optoelectronic Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton and are available through a research programme sponsored by the European Research Council. The posts are available on a fixed term basis until 31/12/2025.
ENIGMA seeks to exceed the frontiers of ultrafast laser material processing, harnessing few-cycle laser pulses (FCLPs) to engineer materials with revolutionary optical and electronic properties. This project will explore the fundamentals and applications of intense interaction between ultra-short light pulses and matter, synthesizing unique material phases for advanced photonic devices and advance long-term high-density data storage, high-resolution microscopy, consumer electronics, and high-power laser applications.
We are looking for hands-on experimental scientists with the drive to solve difficult and challenging scientific and technological problems. If you are motivated by working in a high calibre, highly dynamic research environment, then these positions provide an exciting environment.
We are looking for researchers with experience in one of the following fields:
- ultrafast laser material processing (desirable),
- femtosecond laser direct writing (essential)
- fundamentals of light-mater interactions (essential)
- nonlinear optics (essential)
- ultrafast optics including few-cycle pulses (essential)
- micro- and nano-optics (desirable)
- optical engineering (desirable)
Candidates will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Physics and Optical Engineering, along with a good track record of innovative research at an international level. Experience of highly effective working in teams is also required.
The Applicants should demonstrate experience working with ultrafast laser systems and have a track record of independently setting up complex optical experiments.
Informal enquiries may be directed to Professor Peter Kazansky, ORC, University of Southampton, on tel: +44 (0) 79 1969 5972 or email: pgk@soton.ac.uk.
